4 Steps For Improving Your Sense Of Self-Worth In Business
The power of self-worth is the most important determining factor in reaching our full potential.
Before we can develop or improve our prospecting, leading, training, recruiting skills and business fundamentals, before we truly can start to achieve, we must believe that our value is worth improving.
We must believe that our determined and persistent actions will make success possible.
How do you feel about you? Do you find yourself criticizing or complimenting you on a daily basis? When talking about you, would you refer to yourself as your “own best friend” or “your own worse enemy?”
Often times, we have created the habit of not being very kind to ourselves, in our thoughts, words and deeds so it is important, to take a moment and really evaluate our feelings about self.
People who feel good about themselves, do better in life and yet, old habits often die hard so it is imperative to create a checks and balance system, so to speak, in order to continuously re-develop and improve our good feelings about us!
Our perception of self is many times, tied in with the way we perceive other people to feel about us or even the way we have been treated by others in the past. We could have adopted a low self worth after someone from our past, or even our present, has continually reinforced our internal feelings of inadequacy, through negative talk or actions.
The vicious cycle is exactly that, a vicious cycle that can spiral out of control if left unchecked. For the new entrepreneur, seeking to achieve prosperity and achievement with their business, it’s imperative that the damaging cycle of low self worth is stopped and or reversed as soon as possible.
Steps for improving our sense of self worth in business:
1) Create a feasible game plan for your business and work that game plan daily, weekly and monthly.
2) Practice having a good work ethic in order to develop self motivation and to pave the way for feelings of accomplishment and success.
3) Monitor your thoughts and tune into your inner critic’s voice. Awareness is the key to correction. Replace disempowering thoughts with a positive affirmation or compliment.
Example: “I am a good person; I deserve happiness, peace and love.”
4) Surround yourself with positive, supportive people; seek a mentor or counselor to assist you to stay on purpose in your business and life.
Having doubts along the way is all part of the game of life and we all have times when we experience frustrations. The key is to keep sticking to your plan of action and have the patience to realize that transforming your life with a successful home-based enterprise is a marathon, not a sprint.

Is This Success?
“Do not defer any of your personal power – own it!”~ Lisa Kitter
In 1994 I attended a success seminar, hosted by a very wealthy and successful businessman. He made a few recommendations of things one could do, in the pursuit, of ones own personal success. He suggested becoming an avid self help, leadership and personal development reader. This gentleman also recommended that the person seeking success, should read biographies on successful, accomplished people. He made a bold statement about the advantages of avoiding the media, television and to only read the first page or two of a newspaper. His advice, was that mainstream media, was controlled, manipulated and that the information was designed to keep the populous, as a whole, broken, distrusting and frightened of life.
I often wonder, how many people sitting in that audience, over two thousand of us, actually applied any or all of this businessman’s advice? My desire for success and prosperity was very high. The man speaking up on the stage had nicer clothes than me, a beautiful home (s) which he had showcased up on a huge movie screen for the audience because he had wanted to “inspire” us. He had fast cars, luxurious hand-tailored suits and glowing, wrinkle-free skin. In a nutshell, he appeared to have the prosperous, happy lifestyle that is reserved exclusively, for the rich and famous.
I desired, with all my might, to have what he had, so I began applying all of the “success principles” he doled out to us, like candy that day! Firstly, the television went and when my pre-teen son screamed bloody murder about the missing television set, I repeated what I had heard at the seminar, “The electronic income reducer” was only sabotaging my efforts to achieve more success out of life… it had to go! Already an avid reader, I began reading more books, faster! I careened through each self help “how to” guide as though my very life depended on it.
I picked up books from the library at rapid, break-necked speed and took copious notes which I kept in a three ring binder by my bedside so that it would be readily available for me to jot down any cash induced nuggets of information I might glean from my latest read.
Perhaps, some would say, that I took the successful gentleman’s advice too “literally” and they would probably be correct but I so very much desired a different, better life; If he had told me to sell all of my furniture, quit my job and use what little money I had to start a business of my own…I would have done it! Oh wait, he did tell me to do all of those things and I did and guess what…life got much worse before it got better!
Thank goodness for my self help, successful-people-biographies because they kept me going, when all I wanted to do was bury my head, hide my shame and embarrassment for literally burning all of my bridges and diving head first into the frightening, unfamiliar entrepreneur world! This getting rich stuff was becoming more difficult with each passing day. My friends and family thought I was crazy and I was beginning to think I was too. Then IT happened, my daily affirmations became more believable to me. Unexpected gifts began coming my way and eventually, a little cash trickled in. My business started to take off; the more I believed in myself, the more my confidence soared and the further other people began believing in me too!
Eureka – Success would eventually be mine! But then something very strange occurred; people within my industry would point at me and call me “a success story.” I had the beautiful homes, luxury cars and fat bank account however I didn’t really “feel” successful. I mean come on, I still hadn’t achieved that clear-skinned-perfect complexion yet, my teeth were a bit crooked, and I ran three to five miles daily, just to stay lean and slim. I was married to a nice man but life was certainly not all “bliss.” Success was supposed to mean “no more worries,” it was, in my mind, supposed to make me feel differently, I was surely going to become euphoric, and to feel a bit more like “the cats meow.”
No, this isn’t what “success” was supposed to feel like; after all, I still had troubles, albeit they weren’t necessarily the same type of troubles as I’d had when I was flat broke but they were still troubles. My imaginings had lead me to believe, once I had achieved an annual income of five, six and seven figures…my life would then be perfect! Maybe it was time for me to go back to reading some of my self improvement books. Did everybody feel differently once they had achieved a certain level of accomplishment, or, like me, did they stare into the mirror and think, “I’m the exact same person that I’ve always been,” except now people treat me differently but I know, in so many ways, I am the same?
Success didn’t transform me or should I say, it didn’t change the way I felt about me? Ah ha, so this is one of the secrets of “feeling good about you,” no matter what occurs, you still have to feel good about you! I mean, I loved myself, I admired myself but I still felt slightly flawed and not quite “worthy” of my new-found abundance. The realization set in for me then; when you read quotes such as, “Success is an inside job,” they really do me “inside of self.” The world may or may not eventually look at you and smile for your accomplishments so you must smile and feel good about what you have accomplished yourself, “within self.” It was shortly after this realization set in for me that I decided to begin life coaching and sharing my experiences with others. Perhaps by sharing my experiences, I would be able to assist others over the internal roadblocks that we, so often, set up for ourselves.
We pursue an illusive “feeling of success” but for many, it never comes. I once coached a female heart surgeon, she is considered to be brilliant and top-rated in her field and yet, she confided in me, she often times, feels a fraud. She doesn’t consider herself to be brilliant, smart or a gifted physician, she still perceives herself to be “not smart enough.” Her greatest fear is in being “found out,” she worries that others will discover that she isn’t as bright or exceptional as they think she is and she dreads the day the detection takes place. Even though, the truth is, this female surgeon truly is rated as one of the best of the best in America and she saves thousands of lives every year! Success didn’t alter her insecurities, “within self,” she felt broken, short on talents and lived with the self-proclaimed certainty that it was only a matter of time, before others saw her this way too.
No one can give you a feeling of self love, and for many of us, it doesn’t come naturally so we must commit to finding ways to reinforce the good feelings when we have them.
- Surround yourself with supportive people whom empower and uplift you
- Keep a daily or weekly journal and document your personal/business progress
- Read back through your journal and use it as a reminder of just how far you have come
- Continue to develop yourself and utilize tools, people and methods you have found to be empowering to you.
- Accept that Mom, Dad and people from your past meant well but they may have been wrong about you and your so-called short comings
- Compliment yourself daily, and keep those positive affirmations close at hand
- Take pride in yourself, practice good personal grooming and self care
- Read the books, attend the workshops on improving YOU
- When you make a mistake, learn from it and move on, don’t continue to beat yourself up
- Seek coaching and ongoing counseling when required
- Avoid alcohol and recreational drugs if you have challenges with them
- Take care to maintain a healthy body weight, exercise daily and feel better
- Focus on accomplishing your goals and not on being perfect
- When you can improve you, do it. If there is something about you that can’t be changed, learn to accept it
- Practice giving yourself permission to shine and say yes whenever possible
The moral of the story is this; always work on “self.” Chase the dreams, develop the business and become a raging, prosperous, success story for others to admire and strive to duplicate but never, ever, stop working on you! Read the books, attend the workshops, the seminars and do the personal coaching, counseling, whatever it takes, in order for you to accomplish a sense of “self love.” Peace of mind only comes from within.
Stay tuned, Wednesday I have a very special video to share with you. I look forward to sharing with you again very soon.

What Does The Happy & Successful Entrepreneur Have That The Struggling Business Owner Does Not
“Have you joined the movement, its called FREE THINKING – give it a whirl!!” Lisa Kitter
Which best describes your business?
- Are you having fun with your business?
- Or is your business weighing heavy on your mind?
If you’re finding it a struggle to build your business or if you’re just plain not having fun, it’s time for a change…an attitude change.
The fact is, that all you have to do to make changes in the way you feel about things is to decide to make the change and then act on it. And here’s a good place to put that to good use.
If you’re not having fun, then decide that you’re not going to take things so seriously and that you’re going to have fun in building your business. People look forward to doing things that are fun. People procrastinate and avoid doing things that are not fun.
Think about it.
- Would you rather clean the house or spend the afternoon with friends doing fun things on a beautiful summer day?
- Would you rather have extensive dental work or go for dinner at your favorite restaurant?
- Would you rather wash windows or go to a concert featuring one of you favorite artists?
I think you get my point here. We all have more energy and desire to do the things we have fun doing and we procrastinate from doing the things that we perceive as not enjoyable.
The question, again, is how do you make the shift?
Decide to make changes in your thoughts about your business and what you’re doing. Decide your business is fun and commit to it.
- Laugh a lot. Find things that are funny and don’t be so serious. Things are going to go wrong and most of what goes wrong will be funny.
- Enjoy yourself in the process of building your business.
- Experience joy in everything you do.
- Think happy thoughts. What is it that makes you smile whenever that thought comes to your mind? Think about that and other things that make you happy.
- Start the day and end the day feeling grateful. Develop and attitude of gratitude.
- Find a way to feel good and have fun in all that you do. By being happy and having fun in life, you will automatically carry those feelings into your business.
- Keep your eye on the prize (the results) but have fun and enjoy the process.
Again, you set the tone. If the people in your organization see you having fun, they’ll have fun. If they see you stressed, uptight, and discouraged, they’ll be stressed, uptight, and discouraged.
Again, the point here is that this is a business of duplication. When you have fun, others will duplicate that. Your winning smile, whether experienced in person or over the phone, will be contagious.
Others will be excited to be in your energy because it feels good. Your team will duplicate you in all ways, because they will want to experience the pleasure in building their business, the way you experience happiness in your business.
I can tell you from personal experience that a quick attitude adjustment is worth your time… and it doesn’t cost you a single dime.

LK Success Tip: How To Become A Better Contributor
“When you can look into a mirror and be proud of the person staring back at you and you love “that person” unconditionally, you will have peace!” ~Lisa Kitter
Let’s talk about how we can all become better contributors in our businesses.
Most people start a home business for the convenience of generating money for themselves from the comfort of their own home. That is definitely a big plus to starting your own business in the wonderful industry of Network Marketing / Direct Sales.
Once introduced to Network Marketing, people find out that there truly is no ceiling on the income potential available. The only ceiling is in direct relation to our thoughts and beliefs about what we can generate.
So with that said, Network Marketing is all about creating a team of like-minded individuals who are looking to improve the quality of their lives by, in most cases, creating financial freedom.
The way to reach your individual financial goals in your own home-based business is to focus on assisting those on your team in reaching their income goals.
That’s right! If you focus on assisting those on your team in reaching their goals, you will automatically reach your income goals.
That doesn’t mean that you don’t set income goals for yourself on a weekly or monthly basis. Absolutely do that! What it does mean is your achievement is based on the achievement of others.
You are creating a network of team members who are looking to achieve whatever they’ve set for themselves. You are the leader who is there to guide them toward success.
Notice I said “Guide them to their success.”
You are not in the business of building their business for them, but you are in the business of assisting to point them in the right direction so that they are learning and growing into a duplication of you, which means they are familiar with the process and could do it with or without you.
You are in the business of letting them listen and learn from you as you handle a 3-way call or do a team training session.
Along with focusing on assisting your team members to build their checks, there are other exciting ways and impactful ways to come from a position of contribution, whether talking to team members or anyone else during the course of the day.
- Smile. Seems like such a little thing, but most people don’t.
- Give compliments.
- Give recognition where due. People love to feel appreciated.
- Be kind
- Be patient
- Be encouraging
- Be the example for others to follow
Creating profitable results in network marketing is indeed, a team sport!
That about does it for today… I look forward to sharing with you again very soon.

Why You Must Become A Master At Empowering Others
There are two ways of spreading light …To be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it. ~ Edith Wharton ~
Have you ever stopped to really think about the fact that there is an abundance of bad news, cynicism, negative feedback, and poor self esteem, within the lives of many of your partners, and how this is directly affecting their level of success in business?
It has a major effect, believe me. However, there is a way to move right past this hurdle.
Today we are going to dive right into a topic that is of utmost importance if you want to have a meaningful level of success in your home business NOW. Let’s talk about How To Become a Master At Empowering Others.
Empowering your “prosperity partners” is about “building them up” or it could also be in the form of “talking them up.” As a business leader, you must become a master at empowering others because a strong confident team equates to a successful, prosperous organization of leaders.
When you speak to prospects about your business, products, and/or services, and opportunity, always praise your team leadership sincerely and often. It’s so amazing what a positive effect a simple, sincere compliment can have on people and their productivity.
When you empower your key people, whom are in or soon to be in leadership positions, you are in essence, building them up and establishing instant credibility and respect with your prospect; you’re also letting your prospect know, indirectly, that you have a positive support system on your team and that is available to assist them as well.
Your team will thrive from the heartfelt praise and when people feel good about themselves that higher level of self-esteem will carry over into all aspects of their lives.
It seems we’re very quick to point out flaws in others which will only serve to reinforce their self doubts…instead compliment them…give praise and encouragement!
When you, as the leader, portray a “can do” and an “I believe in you” attitude, miracles will occur within your organization. The positive synergy created within your team, will carry everyone associated with the team all the way to the top of the company.
Energy is contagious, so be sure the energy created on your team is inspiring and positive (remember, a winning mindset is the key ingredient).
Teach your team members to be accountable to themselves but more importantly to each other and to the team as a whole. When everyone shows up to support the presentation or to participate in the trainings, the message is a powerful message of unity and teamwork.
When one or more team member’s makes excuses, week after week as to why they keep missing important team events, you, as the leader must confront them. Confronting others doesn’t have to be a painful experience because it is an opportunity to guide them to get back on track and to remember their goals and their importance to the team.
When confronting someone, be sure to point out two or three positive characteristics about the person being confronted and then communicate how important team support is to the overall goal of the team.
Explain to them what their role is within the team and how their prosperity partners are counting on them. Have all constructive conversations privately and make sure you maintain your positive, “we can do it together” attitude throughout.

LK Success Tip On Leadership vs “Boss Mentality” In Your Home Business
“In Life: Don’t follow the masses – if you’re walking down the street of life, the crowd turns left at the corner…you better make a right, fast!
Don’t get caught up in the sheeple people mentality – sometimes you have to swim upstream in order to achieve greatness!! “~ Lisa Kitter
Have you ever considered what it takes to be an exceptional leader?
Does the idea of being your own boss, making your own hours, and your own business decisions sound incredibly attractive to you?
I’m going to go out on a limb here and just assume, you wouldn’t even be here on this page if you didn’t answer this questions with a resounding ‘YES’
At this point, there is one very important factor to keep in mind…being self-employed is a voluntary position. In other words, this isn’t a job or a corporate position; you’re not the “manager,” you are the LEADER!
I have noticed that as many people achieve higher levels of success in direct sales or network marketing, they have a tendency to begin to take on this, “I’m the boss” attitude and basically insinuate that their team members are nothing more than lackeys or paid servants.
This is a business of FREE ENTERPRISE and people are here by choice and they can choose to leave and take their entire organizations with them if they feel they’re being treated unfairly.
Having a high level of respect for your team, your business opportunity and for each of your partners individually will carry you farther along, than will a self righteous attitude that we typically find in the corporate world.
People make a conscious choice to be entrepreneurs and most have chosen to leave the, often times, ruthlessness of the corporate environment – far behind them.
Remember to “lead by example” and begin early in your relationships to establish yourself as the, “guide” or “the leader.” You move and your team partners move with you, you keep moving forward and if they don’t move…go find someone who will!
Explain to your team members that you are just one person and therefore, the responsibility is on them to show to you how committed they are to their business and they can do this by phoning or emailing you daily with questions or updates.
You don’t have time to chase around your team members when your team is rapidly growing and multiplying like little bunnies. You are busy and successful! Teach your partners to be independent and to use the system your company has in place, expect more from them!
You are not in the business of “doing it for them” because you are a leader and you are in a position to guide and assist the members of your team, to stay on track and to create success for themselves.
Teaching personal empowerment and individual responsibility is much more effective than enabling people.
Have you made the switch from trying to be the boss of your team members to being a leader of great team partners? Please share your various experiences with leadership within your business below. I look forward to sharing with you again very soon.
